Whoever heeds instruction is on the path to life, but he who rejects reproof leads others astray. (Proverbs 10:17)

The Soldier’s Creed  says in part, “I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough, trained and proficient in my warrior tasks and drills.’  Service Members know that mastering their training can make the difference between victory and defeat.  It can especially make the difference between life and death, not only for the individual Service Member, but for their battle buddies who depend on them as well.   This is especially true for our spiritual lives.

In this passage from Proverbs, King Solomon offers a promise as well as a warning.  He says that anyone who seeks to master God’s training will enjoy a fullness and meaning in their lives that only God can reveal.  They will find themselves on a path that leads to a fullness of life.

However, there is a warning.  Anyone who stubbornly rejects God’s instructions will not only find themselves on the wrong azimuth, but they will lead others astray as well.  There are those near to us who on some level imitate our life choices.  They could be spouses, family members, friends or teammates, but they watch us carefully.

Based on what you are doing today, what kind of example are you setting for those around you who look up to you?  Where are you leading them?

If we want to stay on the path to life and be a righteous example to others, let us be able to affirm, “I am disciplined, spiritually tough, trained and proficient in God’s tasks and drills.’

Loving Father, thank you for showing me way to true life.  Course correct me if I have strayed.  Let those around me see by my example that you, and you alone, are the way, the truth, and the life.  Amen.
